– Theoretically you can analyze and observe contemporary menswear as a form of post-modern art, mostly because of its philosophical connections with de-construction. By breaking down the hierarchies of the westernized culture with contrasting themes like: Beautiful/Ugly, Feminine/Masculine, Elegant/Neglected, Perfect/Damaged etc. on the other hand, today’s post-modernistic eclecticism takes place only partially in the world of fashion – according to the philosopher Jacques Derrida. As long as we’re not holding on to one obvious identity; not strictly sexual, national or purely artistic. These hybrids are the headliners that are seen today in menswear fashion, that have been inspired by both Japanese and western traditions – which brings us even closer these core post-modernism principles.
